Today’s busy lifestyle brings it challenges. Depression, Anxiety, Loneliness, Anger and Stress, are complex issues that people face today. At Happy Head Counselling we provide a safe and confidential environment to work through these issues giving you the tools to manage yourself.

Depression

Depression is more than feeling unhappy or fed up for a few days. Most people go through periods of feeling down, but depression symptoms can make you you feel persistently sad for weeks or months, rather than just a few days. Some people think depression is trivial and not a genuine health condition. They’re wrong – it is a real illness with real symptoms, and can cause severe anxiety

The good news is that with the right treatment and support, most people with depression symptoms can make a full recovery.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a group of symptoms resulting from stressful experiences. Symptoms can be in the form of thoughts, emotions, physical sensations or behaviours.

Common signs & symptoms might be:

– Cold, sweaty, numb or tingling hands or feet
– Dizziness
– Dry mouth
– Heart palpitations
– Nausea
– Not feeling able to stay calm or be still
– Obsessions
– Panic, fear, or dread
– Sleeping difficulties
– Shortness of breath
– Sexual issues
– Tensions in the body/muscles/back/neck
– Worry

As a therapist, I work with the underlying causes of anxiety. This condition is a sign that your system is overloaded, and you are coping or have been coping with something big.

Sometimes people have dealt with so much that it doesn’t seem to shift, or there are high levels of anxiety that remain. It makes little sense to try and rid the feeling without working with the underlying causes. This is why I work with underlying causes or ‘the roots’ of the problem.

Get in touch, and start to deal with what it is that is causing you to feel anxious. Set yourself free…

Loneliness

We all understand the feeling of being alone or solitary in fact we often seek it! A few solitary minutes, hours, or for some days, can be a thought worth savouring and something to enjoy.

However, when being alone continues for long periods of time, when we feel cut off from others, it can have a profound and debilitating effect on a person, turning into loneliness, isolation and creating strong feelings of depression, hopelessness and lack of meaning.

Counselling and therapy for loneliness helps you to look at what has led up to this current state of feeling lonely and how you can move forward to connect again.

Anger

Anger is a natural emotional response. It is part of the ‘fight or flight’ mechanism, which evolved millions of years ago to help us deal with physical danger. It can help our survival and help us to protect others. On the other hand, when anger gets out of control it can become destructive and debilitating. It releases a range of hormones that affect every part of our body. The stress hormone that is meant to save us during emergencies eventually becomes a toxin. Our anger is personal to us and is a reaction to people or events.

Anger is energy, and like any power, it needs to be used wisely. During your Stress & Anger Management Appointment, you will learn how to manage or eliminate your unwanted anger and change your mistaken beliefs, in easy stages. Your will learn how to focus on the solution, not the problem and bring yourself into a more peaceful state. You will start to recognise what triggers your anger and be able to find an appropriate calmer response. You will learn how to express your frustration in an assertive way and gradually build up your confidence.

Stress

Stress causes physical changes in the body designed to help you take on threats or difficulties. You may notice that your heart pounds, your breathing quickens, your muscles tense and you start to sweat. This is sometimes known as the ‘fight or flight’ response.

Once the threat or difficulty passes, these physical effects usually fade. But if you’re constantly stressed, your body stays in a state of high alert and you may develop stress-related symptoms.

Book your appointment today and learn how to manage yourself and your anxiety better and enjoy a full and healthy life.
